A previous guest on past a Women in Horror Month spotlight, I welcome back Brandi Lyn Dalton to talk about her latest acting and producing projects
Me: Hello and thank you for returning to this! Since last we spoke, you’ve continued your acting career with roles in “Jason in Indianapolis” and “Blood and Breakfast.” What has these experiences added to your repertoire as an actress?
Brandi Lyn Dalton: Hello Don!
This has been a record year for me! I was in approximately 12 credited films!
With Jason in Indianapolis I had a trifecta, I not only was a producer on this film I played a world news reporter Lyn Parker, whose name I made up using my middle name and Peter Parker from Spiderman!, I also had a blood-curdling pedestrian scream.
My role in Blood and Breakfast was such a blast to play, my character Natilie who's the proprietor of the establishment has a Jekel and Hide personality, she's all sweet to her guest but oh so mean and evil to her husband Ken, who's played by Jeff Leinbach. So both films are very different and have their own challenges.
Me: With a stacked cast of talented indie actors and actresses involved, what tips and tricks have you learned as an actress from working on these films?
BLD: For a takeaway on these two particular films I would say, relax and have fun. Be your most authentic self and that will shine through your work.
Me: What was the set like while shooting the film? How did the cast and crew react to the type of film being made?
BLD: Blood and Breakfast was extremely easy to make to set because it was majorly filmed in Waynesboro at The Amberson House, a local Bed and Breakfast owned and operated by Amanda Bizzarri. If you ever get the chance to visit the area that's a cool place to stay!
Me: Do you recall having any odd or funny on-set stories about yourself or any of the other cast/crew members?
BLD: We did get to celebrate our writer and director Mark Byrnes' birthday while filming, so that was fun!
Me: Being a producer on these and other upcoming films like “These Things” and “Z-Ero, Rise of the Coven” among others, is there a struggle balancing multiple duties on productions like these?
BLD: Here as of late, I've had the honor of navigating the art of producing, and I really enjoy it! It has its challenges but I'm a problem solver! Films I've produced are These Things, written and directed by Matt Anderson with Key 13 Films, Jason in Indianapolis: A Friday the 13th Tribute, written and directed by Samuel Schmucker and a few in the works that haven't been announced yet.
Me: What eventually led to you developing an interest in producing as well as acting? What type of enjoyment do you get from working on a new project in this manner?
BLD: These Things actually filmed in my home, so giving up my home for a week to 20-plus cast and crew was interesting! But I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
Me: Outside of these projects, you’ve also completed several shorts in 48-hour flash productions for various festivals. What has participating in these kinds of projects done for your experience in the industry?
BLD: Outside of the projects that we've already discussed, I was involved with a few 48-hour film challenges, never had done one before, and wow how different! You literally are making a short film in two days! My head was spinning, but I'm very proud of our work. It definitely taught me to think quickly on my feet and think several steps ahead.
I'm excited to announce that I just wrapped my role as CSI Stanton on Romel Xavier Moralez's, Uncalculated. We filmed in Baltimore. Top-notch cast and crew.
Parasomnia is a short that's been submitted to various film festivals, written and directed by David Lantz Jr.
Me: What else are you working on that you’d like to share with our readers?
BLD: Lots of exciting things happening in 2025, one I can share is that I'm working visual effects on Matt Anderson's film Quattro, alongside Kraig Sturtz, who's agreed to let me apprentice him.
Me: Lastly, being that this is our Women in Horror Movement, what special message do you have for any women out there looking to join in the industry in any capacity as you are one yourself? Thank you again for your time!
BLD: For any woman who is interested in getting into the industry in any capacity, I'd say you're never too old and one gig will lead to the next, and so on! Greatness comes with lots of experiences and no role is too small, you can learn a lot about film and production just from tagging along. If you want to get involved and don't know where to start, look for funding campaigns lots of times they have small roles that you pay to play, but it almost always leads to other work. Invest in yourself! Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions and if I can point you in the right direction I'd gladly do so.
Thank you for this incredible opportunity!
