Review:
This was an alright, if rather problematic, genre effort. When this one works the best is the series of expected and rather fun build-up to the zombies coming together, and the different means involving the resurrection of the zombies. The idea of the girls trying to utilize their newfound skills as witches by following a spell that will enable them to accomplish any wish they set out to make is a decent idea in principle, as this is what provides the motivation to go through with the ritual in the first place, since the whole idea is immensely silly and stupid. The fact that it’s geared toward keeping them in the location by focusing on the different requirements that have to go on for it to work, including the special soil requirement of someone having died at the location for it to work, which is what provides the requirement for the zombies to come to life.
As well, with the use of this type of black magic resurrection tactic to get the zombies involved, here’s some fun to be had with the creatures on the loose and running around. The series of sequences here involving the creatures coming to life following their resurrection spell, where they shamble around the property attacking the group or anyone else that comes along, which makes the series of ambushes here bring the group into contact with the series of zombies, offers up some decent enough gore alongside the solid make-up for the creatures. It’s just all handled in such a sluggish, lethargic manner that it’s hard to care what’s going on, featuring way too many useless moments featuring the group chatting with each other about their lives, forcing the issue, or just hanging out around the burial ground, which takes forever to get going since none of it’s all that interesting. Combined with its cheap and flimsy look, these are what bring this one down overall.
Overview: **.5/5
An ultimately watchable if problematic genre effort, there’s enough to like her to be somewhat worthwhile even though the series of flaws present here are what ultimately overwhelm this one overall. Viewers with an appreciation for this style or who are fans of the creative crew will have the most to like here, while most others out there should heed extreme caution.
