Review:
Overall, this was a disappointing and barely worthwhile feature. Among the few positives featured here comes from the final half, where all the action comes from, as this manages to end with all the enjoyable elements collected at the end. Going with the first hour as a means of setting up everything to show not just the fateful accident that set everything in motion when they run over the camper van and set his family on fire, but the setup to group going out on the trip to get everything rectified from the year before that requires them to head out on the road trip in the first place that allows them to get everything back on track following the initial crash which brings them back into the picture of the killer as that brings the different retribution attempts that take place. From high-energy crashes, brutal chase scenes with the vehicular slaughter in place, and the traditional slashing scenes that are brutal and quite bloody, this section has a lot to like and manages to hold this up rather nicely.
However, the main issue here is that it takes an hour to get there before anything happens, so it's a bit of a struggle to get interested in what's going on. That we're following the series of exploits about getting the group together following the incident that changed their lives, making them agree to go through with the trip, and then getting out on the road is an immense chore to follow, especially with the majority of these scenes making the group feel less and less likable as it goes along. Seeing their antagonistic relationship with each other and the one alpha-male type that becomes incredibly grating, trying to get the group to follow his lead keeps this a slog to get started. There's also an immensely underwhelming and troublesome finale to finish everything on, as the actual revenge is thrown aside for a disappointing attempt at setting up a sequel that it doesn't quite deserve to be, causing it to sputter out with a thud when it has built up a lot of goodwill. These are enough to keep this one down.
Overview: **.5/5
Likable enough for what it is but it still has some flaws, this one comes off rather likable once it gets going, as it’s the struggle to get it going that ends up being the main drawback featured here. Those with an appreciation for the style of genre fare or who are fine with its issues will have a lot to like, while most others out there might want to heed caution.
