Review:
Overall, this was a rather solid genre effort. Among the better elements present with this one comes from the wholly effective starting setup that provides this with a fantastic entry point to unleash the horror within. Using the setup of a woman taken to a clinic for memory loss and other forms of trauma as a means of trying to get herself healed from the situation alongside her husband, forcing them to be together while she uncovers a series of shady goings-on at the facility that begins painting him in an unflattering light, this one gets a lot to like with this initial setup. The concept allows this one to work with building up an established atmosphere of general unease and mistrust while at the facility, as the treatment here seems harmless enough, involving the physical exercise alongside the relaxation techniques designed to instill more memory recovery with other residents as well, being involved, and being treated with her husband.
Once this has been established and accounted for, the mystery about what’s going on at the clinic and how it all ties into him being there offers a series of differing viewpoints that will be quite difficult for some to get behind. Bringing about the idea of manipulation and emotional control over her as a means of trying to bring her back to her past self, this sets about introducing a wildly varying degree of uncertainty over what’s going on at the facility and how the couple is tied together in everything going on. This might produce a dizzying set of unease and mistrust in what’s happening around them, especially when the truth gets revealed about what the clinic is really doing there, while others might find this come out of nowhere with the kind of chaotic revelations and bizarre ordeals that might be too bizarre to make sense of it all. Regardless of where it comes from, the film is much too long to care about, losing steam as it goes along and sputtering out beyond the point most will have cared about it.
Overview: **.5/5
A wholly enjoyable if problematic genre effort, this one comes off well enough for what it is, although there are far too many major issues here keeping this one down overall. Those with an appreciation for this style or approach will have the most to get out of this one, while most others turned off by these factors should heed caution.
