Review:
Overall, this was a problematic and barely worthwhile thriller sequel. Most of the better features with this one manage to tie into the use of this one, embracing and employing the use of the influencer lifestyle to accomplish its goals. By focusing on the technological advances and abilities afforded to the heroine by her skillset at tracking down others that carry over from the original, it helps to present her danger to others so that the second half has some stakes to it. That is paid off in a solid and brutal, and genuinely likable confrontation at the end that shows off the unhinged nature of everyone involved in graphic and brutal fashion, which enables some positive points to it.
Aside from that, there's not a whole lot to this one. Much like the first one, this spends way too much time trying to make the quest for online fame and viral notoriety a thing that is wanted and desired only on the most basic of terms, yet it never does anything with it. With the main girl forced to utilize her skills to present herself as the type of personality that is engaged in that lifestyle, as well as the others around her that become very stalkerish, it never presents any of these factors in a light that inspires any kind of sympathy or audience investment.
Moreover, there's very little reasoning for this one to be as long as it is, as the running time here is quite egregious. The majority of the first hour is quite bland, spending so much of her time on her seemingly-perfect relationship that it never presents any kind of follow-up to the original, which comes so out of nowhere it's possible to think this is a prequel rather than a sequel. That so much of the rest of the running time is spent trying to track down the identity of the previous influencer who ruined her life under false pretenses also causes the running time to wear thin after a while, also dragging out the running time for this one, and being what brings it down.
Overview: **/5
A solid enough if somewhat flawed follow-up, this is a generally enjoyable effort that does have some pretty big issues keeping this one down overall. Those who appreciate this kind of genre fare, who are curious about it, or those who enjoyed the original will have the most to like with this one, while most others should heed caution.
