Review:

This was a pretty troubling and somewhat underwhelming thriller. Most of the film’s great points are set up in the interactions and sequences showing the two differing figures engaging in their relationship and burgeoning threat. The way they come together and start to be friends while working on her trip and the different means she's doing to make sure the trip is documented for her followers makes everything feel all the more intriguing, especially with different bits we get about her trip being for the greater good of her mindset to get over a bad relationship is a solid touch to help build up the kind of relationship that gets exploited later on when she snaps against the main girl leading to a strikingly fun confrontations which provide a slew of decently enjoyable stalking scenes which are gruesome enough to be somewhat worthwhile overall.

Beyond that factor, though, there’s not a whole lot to this one that works. The storyline focusing on this slew of vapid, irritating figures, with both of the main leads here being so annoying it’s barely worth being around them, takes up a lot of the running time here, keeping us from being invested in what’s going on. Taking in the picturesque scene around remote Thailand only does so much when the people performing that are insufferable millennials who are more concerned with photographing the trip for their followers or making sure they look the part for the trip, and with that not making the first half thrilling or tense, there’s not much else going on at that point to make for any kind of emotional investment. As the only real time that her threat is felt is during the finale, which drags on and on, involving various fighting on land or on the island in the middle of nowhere, it has plenty of issues holding it back.

Overview: **/5
A mostly likable if somewhat flawed thriller, there are some worthwhile features on display even if those are mostly held down by the drawbacks featured throughout here. Those with an appreciation for this style of inoffensive thriller or who are curious about it will have the most to like here, while most others out there should heed caution.
