Review:

This was a rather fun and likable zombie effort. Among the better elements present in this one comes from the immensely enjoyable setup that provides this with the opportunity to get to know the various performers as they get ready for the show. Immediately introduced to the gang while in the middle of a series of crises affecting their upcoming show, as performers fail to follow through on their promises, better offers come together, and venue issues are just the start of the issues they face. Getting a series of intriguing personal problems that are also impeding the situation which is only further enhanced by the zombie outbreak that takes place on the outskirts of the story that provides scores of comedic moments here using the comebacks and references to the community as they try to deal with the situation in the only manner they know how, leading to some genuinely fun moments here.

What keeps it down somewhat is the fact that, while it's ostensibly about a zombie outbreak and contains plenty of references to the outbreak around them, the zombies are kept to a minimum in this kind of film. There's so little screentime for them in the first hour that it amounts to three or four scenes that barely last two minutes combined, here with a few brief encounters that show they're around but aren't committed to anything more than that. Things pick up in the final half hour when it becomes a series of escape attempts to get out of the nightclub alive, but for the majority of the film, it's decidedly light on zombie action for what type of film this is. As it continues with character-building and trying to tie those storylines together, it makes them seem like less of a threat when they don't do much in the course of the film. This is the main factor with this one that holds it down.

Overview: ***/5
Light on zombie fare but still generally fun enough, this one might be a disappointment, going for character development over high-energy zombie carnage, but there’s still enough to make this worthwhile. Those with an interest in the subject matter, who are curious about it, or are die-hard zombie fanatics, will have the most to like, as most others might want to heed caution.
