Review:
Overall, this was a solid if somewhat flawed genre effort. Among the better elements found here is how this one builds up its romance so that everything comes together rather nicely. The central idea here of the couple initially coming together and using her attraction and charm to bring him in and seduce him to the point of bringing him into their lives in a fit of passion to the point of getting involved in her life with her sister who comes to visit shortly afterward sets this up rather nicely. With this getting the couple together, their point of contention against the flaky sister who’s far more open and willing to feed on victims rather than engage in more secretive behavior, and understanding how to act in a vampire-led society goes nicely with these other aspects.
While it’s all fun and has a lot to like with how the story plays out and the instances of the attacks in bloody, brief ambushes, there’s not much else to this one. The fact that it spends the first half setting up the relationship and how they came together then spends the rest of the time focusing on the antagonistic relationship with the sisters at odds with each other over their distant behavior and attitudes to everything. Although one is more restrained and elegant while the other is more violent and impetuous, this still manifests in a slow-going drama with the two arguing over everything they do trying not to draw attention versus what they were born to do which is focused far more on lifeless, dull drama instead of horror. It’s the main thing here holding this one back.
Overview: **.5/5
A light on horror romantic vampire drama, this erotically-charged genre fare might be somewhat lacking in this type of content but is still immensely watchable for what it is. Those who don’t mind these factors or are still curious about it will have the most to like here while those turned off by its presentation will want to heed caution.
