Review:

Overall, there's quite a lot to like with this one. One of the better features here is the solid backstory and motivation for the interactions that take place here. Setting up the work about the family drama as well as the initial bank heist that's foiled almost immediately, this provides the kind of workable formula to work well here as the idea of him setting out to save his family while they're trapped in the middle of the situation and offers a great way to go about this. With some solid background stories including the need for the hostages, him trying to work out a form of cooperation with the police on the outside relaying information back to them and a bit about the real boss in charge of the terrorists, this has a fun setup to work with.

On top of that, there's also a lot to like involving the action here. Relying on short-burst encounters showing his skill-set with weapons or hand-to-hand fighting, this is mainly about taking about the terrorists using the environment and the element of surprise which leads to some engaging fights taking them out. It takes a while to get to really see him in action but the majority of these encounters are still fun with a nice variety to keep things interesting, and while nothing is extravagant the emotional stakes from the early build-up keeps everything really exciting leading into the final battle that has a lot to like about it. These make for a highly enjoyable effort.

There are a few slight flaws here. The main issue here is a generally familiar setup and formula that becomes quite obvious early on what the film is aping. The structure and format here is basically the same with the loner taking out the group of soldiers in a secure building from a group of robbers unknowingly holding his family hostage is immensely familiar and played quite similarly, especially with the friendship that develops over a radio with the police officer on the outside trying to hold everything together. Some might not mind that, as well as the secondary flaw in that he never really has much of a threat to battle against but beyond that there's not much to dislike here.

Overview: ****/5
A highly enjoyable Action effort, this one manages to remain quite enjoyable over a few small flaws that crop up over time which are thankfully not damaging at all compared to the positives. It’s worth a look for fans of modern Action fare or are fans of the creative crew, while most others who aren’t into these features should heed caution with this one.
