Plot:
Trying to enjoy their vacation, a group of girlfriends is talked into going on a shark-cage-diving expedition, which is interrupted by a group of drug-runners looking to recover a cache of drugs onboard, and are forced to dive in the shark-infested water when it falls overboard.
Review:
For the most part, this wasn't that bad of a genre effort. A lot of the film's positives stem from the strong mixture of genres present in its setup, where it brings together several fun ideas into a fun presentation. The starting point to this one is a great touch to introduce a the girls into the expedition while they're on their trip and taking a trip with the whole shark-diving boat with their host and his curiously ominous helpers who are there with him feeding the sharks, bringing them closer, and setting up the cage for the dive itself to the point where it serves to get them into the water for a traditional shark-survival type of genre effort. As well, the secondary idea of the rug cartel arriving in the area looking for the smuggled goods that are onboard and in the possession of the already-sketchy helpers on the trip completes this whole thing rather nicely when the interruption gets the drugs in the water, and they're forced to come together. It all makes the storyline to this one come together decently enough.
The series of action scenes present here as a result of this setup is immensely fun. The underwater scenes are easily the highlight here, dropping the girls into the cage and into the water with the sharks for what they believe is the natural experience of diving with sharks, where they continuously bump into the cage and swim around them as they freak out. This is matched nicely by the later scenes of their diving around the area, being forced to get the overboard drugs and what they have to do while trying to escape the sharks and return to the ship to deal with the criminals left behind. These scenes are usually fun and likable, with the gunfights on display here trying to fight off each group, but it does drop down slightly by pointing out how little the sharks are involved in this half of the film. It leaves them out of the action to focus on the action of stopping the drug-runners, leaving their presence as more of an obstacle than a full-on part of the film as a whole, and is what brings this down overall.

A highly effective genre mixture, there’s a lot to like here with how this brings the different genres together, which manages to hold it off against the main factor bringing this one down. Those who enjoy the approach on display and are fans of the creative crew will have a lot to like here, while most others out there should heed caution.
