Retrospective: Campout Nightmare III-V by Mike Sankovich

Campout Nightmare III-Taking their shift for the night, the crew at a local mental hospital tries to keep their personal lives in check while dealing with a deranged patient responsible for a local massacre who's about ready to snap. Overall, this was a fairly cute and fun short. The interactions with the staff, given the real-life age of the performers, make for a fun time as the various tasks at the facility are accomplished, which takes up the majority of the running time. The trips into the cell to visit the demented patient help to give this a bit of an edge, especially with the different background knowledge given about what happened to him before the story proper takes place. While the homemade footage and feel make this immensely charming, it does feel quite easy to sit around waiting for something to happen, as it's mainly discussing what to do with the patient, but there's not much that can be done about that, given the age of everyone involved.

Campout Nightmare Part IV: Thorn Lives-Taking a road trip together, a group of friends are stranded at a special treehouse located near the site of a mass killer's vicious killing spree years earlier, and must survive against the madman. Overall, this was a pretty strong and fun story. The expanded running time allows for some great character development with the kids going through plans and what they want to do while growing up, especially with the constant wedding distractions keeping them from noticing the killer hanging out around them. As the party turns sour and everything starts getting made obvious that the stories about the killer are true, this one picks up considerably away from the endearing wedding angle to trying to survive against the vicious killer going through the group, leaving this with a really strong finish and only features the same issues as before where the ages of everyone involved makes it a bit difficult to see it go further than it does.

Campout Nightmare V-With the threat of the serial killer still looming in the community, the group of friends heads out to gather the final pieces of the puzzle necessary to stop the killer’s rampage once and for all. Overall, this is an interesting but also flawed way to end this part of the franchise. The lore dumps around here are fantastic, giving this a lot of information about the killer and his association with the rest of the community, including various connections to the kids and how everything all ties together with the various figures around him. That also leads to some fun and generally likable stalking scenes involving the killer’s rampage in short, shock ambushes leading up to a solid final chase around the community. While that all works, this is a bit sluggish to get through due to a slew of lengthy lore drops about the killer or other forms of personal drama that stretches out the running length more than the other entries in the series, and with things being held up again by the low-budget limitations on display, there are some negative factors here.
