Press Release - ‘Chronicles of Depression’ Psychological Horror Heads to Romford Film Festival: Help Choose the Film’s Official Poster

Following a recent exclusive first look on Bloody Disgusting, the upcoming psychological horror film Chronicles of Depression will receive a special preview screening at this year’s Romford Film Festival in London, UK, playing at the Lumiere Cinema on May 24 at 5pm during the festival’s May 22 to 25 run.

Produced by British Horror Studio, the film marks a darker and more atmospheric step for the studio, focusing on psychological dread, performance, and slow-burn tension.

The preview screening represents an unusual stage in the film’s development. According to the filmmakers, the version shown at the festival will undergo further refinements following the screening before the team launches a modest crowdfunding campaign to support the film’s wider release.

The film is directed by Lawrie Brewster (Lord of Tears) and stars cult horror icon Ian McCulloch (Zombie Flesh Eaters), alongside British Horror Studio regulars Megan Tremethick (The Reign of Queen Ginnarra), Novarro Ramon (Black Chariot), Dorian Todd (In The Grip of Terror), and Michael Daviot (Ghost Crew).

Brewster explains:
“In Chronicles of Depression, I set out to explore the early history of psychiatric treatment and the institutional horrors that can emerge when absolute authority is placed in the hands of those who believe they are acting for the greater good. Even the best intentions in such environments can lead to unimaginable consequences. With such an intense and controversial subject, I knew the film required a veteran presence to anchor our cast of young performers. I was therefore delighted that the British Horror Studio could reintroduce audiences to Ian McCulloch, famed for his starring roles in Lucio Fulci’s Zombie and Contamination, as well as his distinguished work on the stage, including with the Royal Shakespeare Company. At 84 years old, he brought remarkable energy to the set, and I am incredibly proud to mark his return to the horror genre with Chronicles of Depression.”

Written by Sam Ashurst (A Little More Flesh) and with cinematography by Paul William Kelly, Chronicles of Depression blends psychological horror with an emotionally intense story exploring the darker edges of the human psyche.

Alongside the festival announcement, the filmmakers have revealed two official posters for the film and are inviting horror fans to help decide which one becomes the film’s primary artwork.

One design is an ensemble poster highlighting the film’s central cast, while the second leans fully into the film’s disturbing psychological tone.

Take a look at both posters and decide which one you think best represents Chronicles of Depression.
