Review:

Overall, this one is the very definition of a personal preference film. When this one works, the zany scenarios and full-throttle energy provide a lot to enjoy here. The escalating situations that arise from the chase to get her back, following up an equally silly meet-cute that brought them together, shows him and his friend meeting up with a well-meaning loser hitchhiking across the country, inept police officers more interested in beating innocent bystanders than dispensing justice, hippie figures living in the woods, and many more bizarre individuals that allow for a genuinely thrilling time here wondering who’s the next participant encountered. This meshes nicely with the song-and-dance routines that introduce some fun genuine laughs provided the proper mood and mindset are established.

However, when that’s not met, the film is a struggle and chore to get through. Being nearly two hours is a huge part of that, but this type of over-the-top comedy might not appeal to all out there. The exaggerated mannerisms, over-the-top characterizations of bizarre individuals in this universe, and increasingly zany scenarios featured throughout here might not always be funny which is where this one spends the majority of the time so hoping that the situation doesn’t become a drag is a tall ask. This becomes a lot more tolerable when it’s running through the more traditional if overly formulaic backwoods cannibal family that she has to survive with long enough for the boyfriend to save her which isn’t that bad as the majority of this one is reserved for the personal preference towards the comedy.

Overview: ****/5
A real personal preference type of genre effort, this one will be mostly relegated to how an individual reacts to the content within this one which is quite easy to figure out. Those who are curious about this one or feel they won’t mind the situations presented here will want to give this one a shot while those who are turned off by that particular approach should heed caution.
