Review:

Overall, this was a rather fun genre mockumentary. The first half here, not only getting a hint about the history of the show and his intentions to be the best in the field only to be hit with a series of tragedies and setbacks that hindered it all before his comeback makes for a solid enough story. As this one goes along and the exploits of the shelved show start to come about, the hints that something's about to go wrong as the skits and interactions gradually start to go off the rails with bizarre outcomes for each of the guests show off the idea rather nicely that something isn't right with the episode.

That all leads into the celebrated sequence at the end of the show where everything goes haywire as the interactions start to become incredibly more violent and intense. These include unnatural actions, some full-on intriguing supernatural fare involved in the series of questions brought about to determine what’s going on, and involving some wholly intriguing questions about the nature of what’s going on since everything here is supposedly being questioned at the same time. This one does go quite far into the realm of the period that it might be lost on younger viewers and stumble at times, but that’s really the only issue here.

Overview: ****.5/5
A wholly spectacular genre effort, this one comes off so well in nearly every regard that there’s not much in the way of flaws holding this one back as one of the top genre films of the year. Pretty much most out there will have something to like with this one while only those turned off by the approach or creative crew will have faults with this one.
