Review:

Overall, this one wasn't too bad for what it was. Among the more enjoyable aspects here is the film's handling of the group spiraling out of control, which is handled well enough. That this starts from the short hints of them getting lost and going around in circles to the lost equipment, accidental maiming, and all the other ways they get stranded deeper in the woods making for a gradually tenser time. As this grows in severity as they explore the concept of things being due to a cause that slowly starts to gain credence, the changeover into far more literal horror aspects in how they're getting caught up in the exploits of the course coming into play even with the deep-rooted idea that it's still all within their minds. Alongside the minimalist but effective gore make-up, these here are the films' high points.

This one does have issues that hold it down. The main problem here is the complete and utter stupidity that results in how they continue to get into trouble. It's through their fault that they wind up in the situation simply by continuing to follow the errant logic spouted off by the leader who constantly responds with less-than-reassuring affirmations about their progress. That she's wrong about what's going on and is continuing to lead them around into deeper trouble serves to generate a fine twist later on but yet never causes anyone to want to speak out on their plight doesn't come off with any sense of logic. There's also the curious nature later in the film where the voices coming from the forest come off as underwhelming as if there's no build-up to what it is, where it's coming from, or why it's affecting them since it's all garbled and indecipherable, making for an aspect that needs more to work.

Overview: **.5/5
Fun for what it is even with some slight drawbacks, there’s still quite a lot to like here that unfortunately does get brought down by the flaws present in this one. Give it a chance if you appreciate these types of features or are fans of the creative crew while most others turned off by the drawbacks on display should heed caution.
