Short Film Review: Genevieve Rises (2023) by Nicholas Michael Jacobs

A working man's life is turned inside out when he stumbles across an ancient evil book that releases a terrifying psychotic doll named Genevieve.

Overall, this was a pretty enjoyable short to continue the franchise. The high-quality suspense shown at the beginning of this with the series of walk-throughs in the house where he's looking for the doll after it springs to life is the best part here, generating some stellar sequences with the darkness of the situation coming into play rather well combined with the rather fun setup of the book discovery and the chase through the stairway with the doll getting quite vicious and brutal. This really could've used a bit more focus on the book and how it summoned the doll with a lot of the focus until then detailing the relationship struggles which doesn't tend to offer much in the way of explaining how things worked, but beyond that, there's not much to dislike here.
