Mécanix (2003) by Rémy M. Larochelle

While living in a dystopian society, a group of humans living under the control of the one object feared by the race of creatures that rule the world need to prevent the spread of humanity from spreading.

This was a rather difficult effort to get into. One of the film's positives is the extreme visual style that becomes quite prominent throughout here, featuring all manner of strange and bizarre creatures and landscapes throughout here. The post-apocalyptic feel of the universe here is captured quite nicely as the hellish existence of the creatures within here looks quite impressive and it's quite a feat to know the entire thing is accomplished in the stop-motion style that it is. That adds quite a lot to this one that's enough to overcome the sheer lack of cohesion in the storyline as this tends to wander around in a series of overly confusing sequences trying to make this story make sense as there's way too much going on here. The exploits of this evil civilization trying to control the peasants by controlling one of them to do their own bidding and keeping the last remaining embryo out of their hands since it can shift the balance of power is quite complex and just gets lost in a series of overly metaphorical imagery that doesn't really have much impact. Some might find merit in trying to interpret this allegory but it's easily possible to get bored watching it all play out.
