Review:

There was quite a lot to like with this one. As it is, this one purely exists as a formula to dispense a never-ending series of action scenes and setpieces in a constant fashion which keeps this moving along at a breakneck pace. Moving along through a multitude of gunfights, car chases, and fistfights that generate a flurry of activity throughout the running time which manages to bring about a rather fun series of encounters that take place in homes, motels, or on the open road. The stuntwork for several of these encounters is genuinely impressive and far more dynamic than expected, while the martial arts in several of the thrilling brawls generate a much more worthwhile impression. These encounters are impressively choreographed and thrilling, letting the performers have a chance to shine with fluid movements and hard-hitting contact that makes for an entertaining time

On top of that, the film manages to be highly entertaining with the use of some genuine comedic chops on display. The odd-buddy tandem at the center of the film comes off remarkably well with the straight-faced and serious guy trying to get away with his life while the singer tries to use his more outgoing personality to draw one out of him. That leads to a great series of zingers and one-liners back-and-forth that provides a slew of gut-busting and genuinely hilarious features here. Now, if there is a flaw to be had here there’s the fact that this one takes a bit too long to get going with all the early work setting up the technology and the purpose of what’s going on. Luckily, this isn’t too big of a deal and doesn’t drag it down that much.

Overview: ****.5/5
A fantastic and enjoyable genre effort, there’s a lot to like with this one that manages to make for a highly entertaining action film that’s unnecessarily overlooked. Viewers who appreciate this kind of effort or are intrigued by this one should absolutely give this one a watch while only a few who don’t like this style won’t like it.
