The Girl with the Cutter-
Struggling to stay on track, a depressed young woman contemplating suicide attempts numerous drastic measures to escape the bonds of her life which eventually causes her to snap violently against herself and others.
Overall, this was a pretty decent offering. The central premise, almost entirely dialog-less leaving a lot to be inferred by the actions depicted, offers a fantastic depiction of depression as we get a profound glimpse into her psyche. Seeing that not only are pills not enough nor is changing her physical appearance but the need to dive into the world of graphic self-surgery as well as mutilation with the titular box-cutter as if being implored towards death by the psychedelic flash-images and whispers also creates a strong starting point.
The only issue here is that the psychological aspects this brings up, from the failed suicide by over ingestion of pills, the flash images of herself as a gruesome deformity, and the visual tricks required to pull this off, is all far more enjoyable than the cliched torture she performs on herself to dull the pain. As impressive as these scenes are, it’s all pretty much been done before and doesn’t stand out much from the numerous other mutilation scenes in the genre, so despite the nauseating and graphic work in these scenes the other work throughout the short was more enjoyable.
Golgota-
Trapped in a never-ending cycle, a sexually-addictive woman goes to any length she can to satisfy her fix only to later regret what she put herself through.
On the whole, there’s not much to this one at all. It’s all pretty much a random series of gross images carried out without context or purpose due to the episodic nature of the different vignettes. Basically watching a woman pleasure herself with dildos, suck off a random stranger, or lovingly player with her bodily fluids and discharges before eventually being forced to vomit up everything is all we get here repeated over and ver, and with nothing about what’s going on, this all feels random and immensely confusing. If that’s fine, then the relentless obscene images ranging from close-ups of her shoving plastic dildos into her nether regions, taking ejaculations onto her face, or playing with her own defecations all come off as extremely uncomfortable and hard-to-watch, if only for the utterly irritating soundtrack crunching over everything wouldn’t have been there.
