After our initial interview last year for Women in Horror Month, I'm pleased and excited to present a second catch-up interview with podcaster/filmmaker K. Bly this year to talk about what she's been up to in the past year, her new season of Horror&Hooch Podcast and upcoming film projects.
Me: Hello and thank you for agreeing to this again! What have you been up to since last we spoke?
K Bly: Hey, thanks for the opportunity! I have been being a busy body expanding our media company, The 5th Wall. We start Horror & Hooch season 3 this February.
Me: What are some of your favorite memories of the podcast Horror and Hooch from the past year? Have there been some unique opportunities afforded to you because of the show?
KB: Although we had to work through a pandemic, we had an amazing season 2! We were able to collaborate with other podcasts such as Better is Possible and Real Queen of Horror. In addition to that, we had the opportunity to interview upcoming filmmaker Comika Hartford and discussed the horror industry.
I am also excited to say we were blessed and fortunate enough to interview Travel Channel’s The Ghost Brothers and horror legend (The People Under the Stairs, Nightmare on Elm St. 5: The Dream Child), Kelly Jo Minter!
Me: What plans do you have to grow the show's brand in the future?
KB: We plan to continue doing what we are doing, which is growing our audience and network.
Me: How do you feel you've grown both as an individual performer and with the rest of the hosts over the past year?
KB: We have upgraded our equipment so that our sound and visuals look better. We are constantly brainstorming on ways to collectively improve the show and connect to our audience.
Me: Outside of the show, you've also started writing several short stories. Where did the inspiration to start writing come from?
KB: I have been writing for a few years. I have three comic books on Amazon (2 Lost, 2 Lost: Renaissance and 2 Lost: Resistance). I wanted to write some short stories that I could later compile in a short story collection and also expand into episodes for our upcoming horror series. I always wanted to write a book of short horror stories. I figured I would start by slowly writing them one by one.
Me: What were some tactics you used to stay focused and motivated while writing?
KB: I have a lot of self-discipline. So as long as I schedule in time to write, I will get it done.
Me: Once they were written, what was the distribution to get them published and released for readers?
KB: They are available to read for free! We wanted to keep people entertained throughout the pandemic by bringing more content.

Me: As well, you've also started planning several feature films to be released. What can you tell us about these?
KB: We filmed the pilot episode of our upcoming horror anthology, The 5th Column last summer! It will be released this year. We are also working on a short film to also be released this year. We are so excited to be expanding into the film industry. We have been working hard for a few years to release film projects. Our dream has been to bring horror into all aspects of media. Books, podcasts, and now a horror series and mini-movie.
Me: Who are some of your influences to get started in the industry and make your own feature?
KB: I have been influenced my whole life by Stephen King, R.L. Stine, and Wes Craven. It just took the support of friends and colleagues to help make my dream of creating horror films a reality.
Me: Beyond these projects, what else are you working on that you'd like to let our readers know about?
KB: I’d like people to follow us on social media to stay connected with us and get updates about all of our projects. We also plan to sell merch with our company logos on them later this year. Oh yeah, we do a lot of giveaways!

Me: Lastly, being that this is Women in Horror Month, what special message do you have for any women out there looking to join in the industry in any capacity as you are one yourself? Thank you again for your time!
KB: Support other women! We are not in competition with each other, there is enough space for everyone. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or offer help.
