Review:

Overall, this one was a pretty enjoyable effort. As is usual with these films, the need for retribution needs to be worthwhile and that comes across in an earnest if slightly unsatisfying way with the attack in the attack. Storyline-wise, it works if a bit underwhelming in execution due to the darkness featured on-location, nevertheless as an instigation point this works and the resulting scenes afterward showing her coming to terms with the surgical implants needed to save her provide some fun scenes in a heartwarming fashion and has some fun with the recovery and adjustment process.

As well, there are scores to like with the later scenes of her vigilante takeover of the area. Armed with the self-defense knowledge and the weaponry she has, this one gives a great idea of what she can do which makes the scenes taking out disrespectful punks imminently satisfying getting their comeuppance. The fact that everything takes place on the same night in the parks means a fun series of cat-and-mouse games hunting everyone down and finishing them off in a brutal fashion. All coupled with the thinly-veiled yet well-handled theme of her fighting for humanity as a machine that gets brought up nicely in the finale, there are some enjoyable elements here.

There are some minor issues here. As mentioned, some of the scenes here are a bit too dark to be able to properly tell what's going on, which is indicative of the low-budget on display here. Some might find fault with the guerilla-style look to this one where it looks to be taken off the street so it could be difficult to make out what happened during the big shootouts of her seeking vengeance. That also leads to the slight issue of not getting to see the goods during action scenes as all the gore is just aftermath for supposedly a grindhouse throwback which can be somewhat disappointing. Otherwise, there's not much else to dislike.

Overview: ***/5
Getting a lot to like with a fun setup to get this going as well as the actual revenge motivations, this is serviceable if somewhat flawed effort at points. Give it a look if you’re a fan of these genre efforts or of the creative crew, while those turned off by the style or the flaws presented here should heed caution.
