WIHM Special - Piggy (2019) by Dixie Gers

Thinking she's met a new boyfriend, a woman is distraught to learn he's ashamed to be with her which is the culmination of a lifetime of similar incidents and pushes her to a shockingly vicious act.

There is quite a lot to like with this one. So much of that is centered on the continued theme of positivity towards women that's at the heart of the storyline. Treating her the way it's shown here, with rude and disparaging remarks about her or pulling vicious pranks on her simply for her figure rather than look beyond to see her for who she truly is, starts to make a pretty prominent and powerful statement. Ignoring her for her kindness and generosity towards her friends for how she looks and what his friends will think of the relationship says so much about the culture of male thinking this is actively commenting on.

Likewise, it uses those elements to fuel it's horror-based finale where it switches around nicely into its shocking revenge. Not only is the bar scene that leads into this, which is not only all too realistic a scenario but is genuinely humiliating and upsetting to watch, a fantastic breaking point to cause her to snap but gives this a great punch to firmly make her plight even more sympathetic. This might be a little rough and raw in terms of filmmaking talent for what happens here but the extenuating circumstances of this being a debut release behind the camera tend to wash that out. Beyond that, very little about this one stands out as being detrimental.
