Fused (2019) by Patrick Rea

Struggling to keep her condition in check, a woman upsets her partner by not telling her the truth about the strange blackouts and nightmares she has until it's too late.

Overall, this effort wasn’t too bad. The beginning offers some fine build-up to her real condition, as the doctor visit that provides no explanation for anything to the encounter with the lone jogger she encounters, as that gets explained away at the proper time when she gives a rather dark offering for what’s been happening to her throughout her life. The context this gives informs the rest of the short nicely with the trappings of a chilling story that can be seen coming a mile away based on the information there as well as the final resolution of their meetings together but doesn’t make this any less enjoyable.

That gets brought to a head with the other scenes of the two in their apartment after revealing the true history of what’s been going on with her. The scenes in the apartment offer a series of nicely chilling stalking moments around the house of her following her friend around as well as going outside through the streets which are filled with really impressive stalking through the night that leads nicely into the big confrontation in the alleyway which is pretty brutal in the overall scheme of the story. It ends up fitting the finale’s revelation about the true nature of the obvious twist in the storyline where this ends up where you expected it to without being too upset about the journey to get there.

As this ends up without much in the way of suspense once it lets the big historical revelation loose in the first half, that it still remains enjoyable heading to where you expected it to gives this a nice touch of excitement to the overall journey there. That makes this a worthwhile if not an entirely too original effort that has a lot to like about it.
