Occurrence at Mills Creek (2019) by Dan Swanson

Following the death of her sister, a woman tries to get through the ordeal only to find herself haunted by her memories forcing a rather traumatic confrontation for her sanity.

Overall, this was a rather intriguing effort with a lot of promise. The rapid manner of how this one brings about the pain and emotional trauma of the situation with their lone interaction at the beginning and the flashbacks both to the familial strife and then the sisterly bond they have which is shown to be the real cause of death with the fateful accident. The resulting ghostly imagery manages to give this some intrigue and some scares amidst the interweaving drama.

However, there are a few minor issues with this one which is wholly justified here. This one takes such a shortcut to its storyline, relying so much on inference to tell what’s going on with her guilt and sadness that it skips over the majority of the reasoning for it all. The funeral is the main culprit were not being able to tell what’s going on here causes some potent questions as it unfurls. However, all of this is truly moot when taken into context about it serving as a teaser for a feature-length adaptation that should hopefully answer most of these issues, yet taken on its own, are just too wholly prominent here.
