Phantoms of the Fog (2018) by Chris Milewski

Awakening in the forest, a soldier looks for supplies as he tries to escape the carnage of the war around him. Finally able to find a safe place, he soon learns he's mistaken when he stumbles across the fact that the location is haunted by the corpse of those who died in a series of experiments and must try to escape suffering from the same fate.

This was a decidedly impressive and enjoyable short entry. The atmosphere present here, with the forest location serving this one incredibly well by offering a truly foreboding location as the guy wanders through the woods. There's a very Italian-influenced tone of production throughout this section, with the sunflares, color filters and omnipresent sense of doom that runs throughout the trip as he continually comes across new dangers constantly, as well as being enhanced by the addition of the very Italian-looking corpse that reeks of their style with the dirty, moldy and decayed look. The action within the forest is rather impressive and chilling, so while this ends on a somewhat confusing note due to not readily explaining the purpose of the resurrection even with it being obvious from watching it, for the most part this was an incredibly enjoyable short. It's bumped up quite a few notches, though, if you're preference falls into the Italian school of filmmaking.
