An Unfinished Desire (2018) by Satyajit Chakraborty

After meeting a charming woman, a man resolves to win her over when she doesn't seem interested in his advances. Taking small steps to get to know her, the two eventual grow quite close enough so that a year later he tries to complete the process only for his secret past life from reaching her.

One of the more enjoyable aspects of this effort is the startling cinematography, which captures the Indian landscape in sometimes breathtaking manners. From gorgeous shots of the Sun blazing in the sky over the village to the bustling small-town village that this takes place in, the short looks impressive visually throughout here. The first part where the romantic drama between them is quite appealing, a consequence of the brevity of the picture which moves this along really well with their dates as well as the fun birthday celebration he throws for her. Light, breezy and full of vibrant colors, this section soon gives way to a slightly darker undercurrent which runs throughout the rest of the effort.

There is a slight change in tone after the intermission point where it strangely becomes less compelling when it introduces the past life coming back to interrupt their journey together. Perhaps this is due to the suddenness with which it introduces this aspect of the story or the random occurrence it comes into here, but this aspect of the story is given a short change aspect that really seems rushed. It makes the weird decision then to add in black-and-white color during the final process which is over the part of the film that needs narration or something being told the most as it's quite the confusing series of actions of him being beaten up by the gang and then treated to the same dumped-into-the-river that befell the first victim which makes his journey altogether confusing. However, it must also be pointed out that had this effort been shown in a subtitled form that explains all this it will probably be dropped and rendered a moot point.
