Director : James Dobbins Jones Year : 2021 Country : Australia Alternate Titles : N/A Genre : Exploitation; Mockumentary Plot : After looking into how to go online, a kid and his friend find a series of dark and disturbing visuals about human nature. Review : This was a rather tough and disturbing genre effort. The very nature of the lips being show, ranging from gang beatdowns, live mutilations and dismemberments, executions, and accidents that reveal brutal and obscene acts from various sources reveal a highly uncomfortable experience. The fact that it’s taken from documentary footage leads a realism to the material that goes beyond most genre fare as the detachment that comes about from this approach, especially when it goes beyond the human deaths into highly uncomfortable bodily functions or other antics that include animals at certain points. Director : Jaime Bailey Year : 2024 Country : USA Alternate Titles : N/A Genre : Slasher Plot : Working in an after-hours arcade, a woman tries to keep it running smoothly when a group of friends gather at the spot to have a special party, but when they realize that a disgruntled former employee is stalking them inside the facility they must uncover who’s killing them and stop him. Review : This was a decent enough if somewhat flawed effort overall. One of the finer features here is the initial setup that allows for a generally fun time in the first half as this starts rather nicely. The format of retelling everything in the aftermath and going back over the night looking for details that can help prove her innocence which lets us get to know the couples and the general friend group enough to be somewhat sympathetic to them as the group features the usual assortment of teenage issues from jealousy, resentment, or bragging rights. Director : Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury Year : 2024 Country : France/Belgium Alternate Titles : Le mangeur d'âmes Genre : Suspense/Thriller Plot : Following a series of gruesome murders, authorities in a small French mountain town are brought together to solve the mystery before them, which suggests that the different cases eventually relate to one another and bring them together to solve the mystery before them. Review : This wasn’t that bad of a murder mystery genre effort. One of the better features of this one is the impressive setup offering a rather solid means of tying together various storylines present throughout here. The main storyline about the gruesome murders bringing the main detective to the town is a fine touch, while the later revelation that the concurrent investigator looking into the missing kids has a related air to it comes off rather nicely.
